# Switch from folk to Migaru in four steps

## folk to Migaru, step by step

1. **Export your records from folk.** Export each group as a CSV from its menu in folk. folk exports the columns a view shows, so display every field you want to keep first. Nothing connects to folk, so nothing there changes while you move.
2. **Set up your stages and fields.** Add a field for each folk field you want to keep, and if you track deals, name your deal stages to match. The importer maps onto fields that already exist, and a stage only comes across if Migaru has one spelled exactly the same way.
3. **Import each file.** Import companies as accounts and people as contacts, up to 50,000 rows a file. Columns named like one of your fields map themselves, and where it can, Migaru suggests a field for the rest for you to check. Every import is logged and can be undone.
4. **Connect your mailbox and calendar.** Each person connects Gmail or Outlook along with its calendar, and Migaru reads back up to two years. Conversations land on the records you imported: contacts are matched on email address and accounts on the domain of their website, so https://www.acme.com and acme.com are the same account. Anything that still looks like a duplicate is flagged for you to merge.

### After the move, if you want

- **Add your call transcripts.** Drop in the transcripts your recorder exports, several at a time. Migaru files each one on the meeting it belongs to, making one when your calendar never had it, or on the account or contact when it can't be sure, and lists any it can't place for you to attach. It reads each one for commitments, unless the person who uploaded it keeps only who and when.
- **Rebuild the automations you still need.** Describe each rule in a sentence: what triggers it, the conditions, and what to do, such as set a field, create a task or notify someone. Migaru reads the rule back to you before it is created. Workflows come with Pro and above.

### How long does it take to switch from folk?

Four steps. Each import runs as soon as its columns are mapped, taking a minute or two for a file of tens of thousands of rows, and each person connects their mailbox and calendar in a couple of minutes. Reading two years of email and meetings carries on in the background, a batch every fifteen minutes, while you work.

### What about the people I added from LinkedIn?

They come across with your groups' CSV files, as contacts. From then on Migaru adds people from email, calendar and Slack rather than LinkedIn, or you add them yourself.

### Can we keep using folk while we move?

Yes. Migaru never connects to folk, so nothing there changes while your team moves across. There's no sync between the two either, so pick a day to stop entering data in folk.

### Does our email history come across from folk?

Not from folk: Migaru reads it from the source instead. When each person connects Gmail or Outlook, up to two years of email and meetings are read back and filed on the records you imported.
