# How to use your CRM from Claude or ChatGPT, over MCP

> Use your CRM from Claude or ChatGPT over MCP: what a CRM’s MCP server does, how to connect one, and what to decide before an assistant changes records.

You can use your CRM from Claude or ChatGPT if the CRM has an MCP server: add the server’s address to the assistant as a custom connector, sign in, and the assistant can read your records and, if an admin allows it, create and change them from the conversation. In Migaru, that address is https://app.migaru.ai/api/mcp, on every plan.

This guide covers what MCP is, what it is useful for, how to connect a CRM, and what to decide before you let an assistant change your records.

## What MCP is

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other software. A CRM that runs an MCP server offers an assistant a set of tools, such as finding records, reading one or updating a field, and the assistant decides when to use them while it answers you.

Because it is a standard, one server works with every assistant that supports it. The CRM doesn’t need one integration for Claude, another for ChatGPT, and a third for whatever comes next.

## What you can do with your CRM from an assistant

The point is to do CRM work where you already are. For example:

- **Before a call:** “What do we have on Acme, and which of their deals are open?”
- **After a call:** “Add the two people I just met from Acme as contacts, and set the deal’s next step to sending the security review.”
- **In the middle of other work:** “Which of my open deals are due to close this month?”, while you write the forecast note in the same conversation.
- **Across tools:** what the CRM says, put together with what the assistant’s other connectors hold, in one answer.

Only the second changes anything, which is why the next two sections matter.

## How to connect a CRM to Claude or ChatGPT

The steps are much the same in any assistant that takes MCP connectors:

- **Find the CRM’s MCP address.** It is a URL, usually given in the CRM’s settings or help. Migaru’s is https://app.migaru.ai/api/mcp.
- **Add it as a custom connector** in the assistant’s settings. If you can’t find the option, the assistant’s own help says where it is and who can add one.
- **Sign in.** A good server lets you sign in as yourself, so there is no key to copy and paste.
- **Choose what it may do:** read only, or create and change records as well.
- **Ask it something you already know the answer to,** and check it finds the right account before you rely on it.

## What to decide before an assistant can change records

Reading is low risk. Writing is where it matters, because an assistant changes a record with the same confidence it says everything else.

- **Who allows it.** Connecting an assistant should take an owner’s or admin’s approval, not only the wish of the person who wants it.
- **Read, or write.** Start with read-only. Allow changes once you have seen what people use it for.
- **Straight on, or to review.** Some changes are better proposed than made. Know whether the connection writes straight onto records or into a queue for a person to approve.
- **A trail.** Every change the assistant makes should show in the record’s history, marked as made through the connection, so a bad edit can be found and put right.
- **A way to switch it off.** One place that lists every connected assistant and key, where any of them can be revoked.
- **Where the data goes.** What an assistant does with what it reads is governed by its provider’s terms, not the CRM’s. Read them as you would for any app you give your customer data to.

## MCP the other way: your CRM’s agent using your other tools

MCP works in both directions. As well as assistants reaching into the CRM, the CRM’s own agent can sign in to the MCP servers of the other tools your team uses, and answer from what they hold.

In Migaru, the agent reads Gong, Granola, Linear, Stripe and the other apps your team uses, or any MCP server you add, when a question needs them. An action in one of those apps asks you first, with **Approve** and **Decline**.

## An outside assistant, or the CRM’s own agent?

They do different jobs, and a team can use both.

- **The assistant you already use** suits work where the CRM is one input among several: a plan, a note or an email you are writing in Claude or ChatGPT that needs what the CRM knows.
- **The CRM’s own agent** suits questions about your customers. In Migaru, it answers from your records, email threads, calls, files, knowledge and skills, cites the record, meeting, thread or moment in a call behind each point, and sends the changes it proposes to Review for somebody to approve.

## Connecting Migaru to Claude or ChatGPT

- **Allow it:** an owner or admin allows the connection, and **Settings → API keys** → **Connect an AI tool** walks through it.
- **Add the connector:** in Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant that takes MCP connectors, add https://app.migaru.ai/api/mcp as a custom connector, and sign in.
- **Read or write:** an owner or admin chooses whether it may create, change and archive records as well as read them.
- **What it changes:** goes straight onto records, rather than to Review, and each record’s history says the API changed it.
- **With a key instead:** an owner or admin can make an API key under **Settings → API keys**. A key reads every record, changes them only if **Let this key change records** was ticked when it was made, is shown once, and can make 120 requests a minute.
- **Switching it off:** a connection or key can be revoked at any time under **Settings → API keys**.
- **Plans:** the MCP server, the API and export come with every plan.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I connect my CRM to ChatGPT?

Yes, if your CRM has an MCP server: add its address in ChatGPT as a custom connector and sign in. For Migaru, the address is https://app.migaru.ai/api/mcp, and an owner or admin allows the connection and chooses whether it may change records or only read them.

### How do I connect a CRM to Claude?

Add the CRM’s MCP server address in Claude as a custom connector, sign in, and choose what it may do. For Migaru, add https://app.migaru.ai/api/mcp once an owner or admin has allowed it; Connect an AI tool, under API keys in Migaru’s settings, walks through it.

### What is an MCP server in a CRM?

A service the CRM runs so that AI assistants can use it through the Model Context Protocol, an open standard. It offers tools such as finding, reading and updating records, which an assistant like Claude or ChatGPT calls while it answers you.

### Is it safe to connect Claude or ChatGPT to a CRM?

It can be, with the right controls: an admin who approves each connection, read-only access until you need more, every change kept in the record’s history, and a way to revoke the connection. What the assistant’s provider does with the data it reads is governed by that provider’s own terms.

### Does Migaru have an MCP server?

Yes, on every plan, at https://app.migaru.ai/api/mcp. Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants that take MCP connectors connect by signing in, or with an API key. Migaru’s own agent also signs in to other apps’ MCP servers to answer from what they hold.
